White House Boat Ramp

The 211 bridge over the boat launch hosts a nesting colony of Cliff Swallows in the spring and summer. The boat launch is a good spot to observe a variety of swallows and herons in the summer.  In the winter ducks can occasionally be seen although the river is fairly shallow here so it is not the best spot. Walking Kauffman's Mill road to the north of the boat launch can be very productive at all times of year. The habitat between the road and the river is maintained as bird habitat by the White House Farm Foundation and hosts a wide variety of birds year round. In the spring and summer Tree Swallows and Eastern Bluebirds nest in the boxes along the fence. Warbling Vireos and Baltimore Orioles can be found near the boat launch and Indigo Buntings and Blue Grosbeaks frequent the field area.  In the fall and winter this field hosts a wide variety of sparrows, Lincoln's Sparrow is quite regular in the late fall. Most notably, a Harris's Sparrow was found at this site in December 2017.
