Amenities

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Alexandria is the historic "Old Town" section, which offers ample opportunities for shopping and dining in any of the many local businesses. Even for those who aren't shopping, simply strolling the streets will offer a scenic walk filled with historic architecture and cobblestone streets. History buffs may also want to purchase the Key To the City museum pass, which gives access to 8 historic sites including the George Washington National Masonic Memorial, Alexandria Black History Museum, and Gadsby's Tavern Museum, a restored 18th Century tavern. There are also several free museums in Alexandria, including the Alexandria Archaeology Museum and the National Inventors Hall of Fame, located at the US Patent & Trademark office.

Alexandria is well-known for its restaurant scene, and a full listing of the options available would beyond the scope of this page. However, birders interested in the dining options are almost certain to find something that suits their tastes by browsing the listings on the city's tourism site. Craft beer fans will definitely want to pay a visit to Port City Brewing Company, in the western part of the city, to sample some of their award winning beers. Hops Grill & Brewery, despite the name, no longer brews on-site.
